Social and Environmental Issues Surrounding the Red Abalone Fishery Closure in 2018
A red abalone pictured in a crevice in a cove near Jug Handle in Fort Bragg, CA. The abalone is seen surrounded by urchins, coralline algae (part of the abalone’s diet especially when younger) and sea anemones. Abalone are often found in spaces like this crevice where they feed on kelp debris.
