Meet Pete Raimondi

Lower Thirds Title: Professor of Ecology/ Evolutionary Biology

Pete Raimondi, PhD is a professor of biology at University California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). At UCSC he has an interest in ecology and evolutionary biology of marine organisms. Dr. Raimondi works not only as a professor at the university, but also as a project manager for abalone rescue projects such as the rescue of black abalone from Big Sur which were threatened by the Dolan Fire burn scar. The Dolan Fire scar was polluting sediment onto the coastline and threatening this species. While thousands of abalone were still lost to this fires run-off hundreds were still saved by Dr. Raimondi and the UCSC teams intervention. To help evacuate the endangered species the team dug up the buried abalone and transported them to a rehabilitation facility in coolers. Dr. Raimondi’s knowledge of marine life along the California Coast is vast and well articulated, making him a great addition to this documentary.
